Why’s this so powerful? We were just looking at some recent surveys on the number of new domain names registered or the number of domain names actually registered. A domain name is a web address that you obtain for a website. This doesn’t count the number of websites, mind you, that are under a domain. There can be more than one website on a domain.

Just consider that domain names alone are websites. In July of 1998 there were thirty-six million domain names. In July of 1999, there were fifty-six million domain names. That means in one year there were another twenty million new domain names and more than that. Say two to three times that on average are the number of websites you’re competing with.

Roughly 90% of those websites don’t even bother to ask you for your e-mail address. They don’t even bother to ask you for any information. They just statically deliver information. Of that 10% that do bother to ask, 90% never send you anything in response.

So just think, by putting that e-mail form on your site that sends an e-mail to you when they respond and gives you a visitor’s e-mail address and permission to e-mail them, that alone makes you stand out above 90% of those millions and millions of other web pages. It makes you in the top 10%!

When you get one of those e-mails, just send a standard response saying thank you for visiting my website. You now stand head and shoulders above 90% of that remaining 10%. You’ve just knocked down the competition and the odds against you 200-fold or a thousand times, actually!

The other thing we would do is include a tag line on that e-mail that offers the person that you’re thanking a nice discount or a special offer on whatever you’re selling on your website. Something special, a free gift if they come back. A special discount because they bothered to give you their e-mail address. Also, of course, you’ll want to send additional e-mails down the road reminding them if they haven’t visited or reminding them of specials. The key is now you’ve collected their e-mail, now you’re creating a relationship.

It takes a little effort. You’ve got to set up an e-mail address. You got to have e-mail, but you don’t even need a computer to do that and we stress this all the time. You can go to several places. There’s a company called Hotmail.com, www.hotmail.com. There’s a company called Juno.com, www.juno.com. You can reach these two places with any computer that runs a web browser that’s connected to the Internet and fill out and set up an e-mail account of your own or multiple e-mail accounts if you want to.

What this does is it enables you to go to your local library. You can tell the librarian there that you need help getting on the Internet and “Show me Hotmail. Help me set up a Hotmail account.” You can go to the library twice or three times a week to see who’s visited your website and send out an e-mail. Have that be the e-mail address where the form is sent to, and you just reply saying, “Thank you for visiting my website.” You could have a friend do it.

We have always said that every neighborhood has at least, probably, ten high school aged kids within a few block area radius of you that’s got their own personal computer and Internet connection. They would be happy for ten to twenty bucks a week to collect and send e-mails for you. It’s that simple.

In order for sales copy to really sell your product and sell it well, it has to convince the prospects that read it that the offer is sincere, what they want, a real opportunity instead of some company trying to get rich selling them things.

This is where the challenge lies - in the matter of trust. If your market doesn’t trust you, they’re not going to buy from you, and you will stand no chance of success until you learn this.

There are many marketers out there fighting with this beast of a concept right now, trying to find some way to persuade people to buy what they have to offer.

These days, people know that a sales message isn’t specially written for them - they know that it’s going to many, many people. Therefore, our job as marketers is to create an illusive sense that we’re truly communicating one-on-one with them.

How can we pull this off?

First of all, personalization is important. Make sure that prospect’s name appears in the copy . . . “Dear John Doe,” etc. Refer to the prospect by their name.

Second of all, write the copy as if it’s a verbal conversation you’re having with that prospect. Let your personality show in what you write. Don’t be all business - be yourself! Make it read like you DID type that letter for one friend of yours!

By doing so, you’ll build a lot of credibility with your prospect. They know when they’re reading pure sales copy, and when they’re reading something a person typed with some sort of feeling. They will feel as if they are being addressed one-on-one with that letter, and by allowing your personality to shine through your copy, they will begin to feel as if they know you, as if you really are a real person . . . this will equal credibility and trust with those prospects, and they will want to buy from you!

If prospects feel they have a connection with you and believe that your offer is true, in many cases they’re going to take that extra step and go ahead and purchase your product.

How To Use Internet Auctions To Get People To Pay To Receive Your Sales Material - When They Pay To Receive Your Material - They’re More Likely To Buy Your Product!

 

Here’s an idea that’s a little bit different . . . it can help you bring in a lot more sales for your full product and bring people to your website. We have seen this done successfully on several of the Internet Auction sites that we have visited - and it’s how you can use Internet auctions to get people to pay to receive your sales material!

You can use the auction to bring people to your website in order to tell them more about your product - and sell them! If you are selling a high priced product, you might not have the space or want the space to have people read through a long, lengthy sales letter on an auction site.

You can put up a report, for example, that you are selling for maybe just one penny, fifty cents, or one dollar (depending on what it is).You can actually sell that through what we call the Dutch Auction, which is when you have more than one item for sale. That report can then get people to your web site or it can

(Actually, you can have any number of items on the Internet auction block, but you wouldn’t want to go too high.)

Say you put up that you have fifty of these reports for sale for $1.00, and people bid on them. Then you can deliver it to them electronically! If you have e-mail, you can e- mail the report to them. That report can lead people to your web site or it can lead people directly to a product.

Another take on this, using the same concept, is you can actually sell the report very cheaply just as a vehicle to have that advertising on the auction site. Then go within your listing and put up a link that says, “Click here for more information or to get this report right away!” When people click on the link, it can lead people to your web site.

The reason you would want to do this is, especially if you are selling a high priced product, is because you may not have the space to put a lot of information on the auction site. By doing this, you can lead people to your web site where you can go through a more thorough explanation, and attempt a more thorough job of selling your product to them . . . and that can get more people to go ahead and respond!

If you are selling the product for fifty cents or one dollar and you do have a lot of people buying it, the only hassle you are going to have is that people will be sending you cash, checks, money orders, and if you take credit cards they will be wanting it billed to their credit card for that small fee. We presume (we have never done this ourselves) that one way you can get around that is, if you are selling it for a penny, tell people that you are waiving that penny charge once people say they have won the auction. That way you don’t have to handle the hassle of getting hundreds of pennies in the mail or hundreds of dollars in the mail. Still, that could be nice to get!

This is just something you can do to help sell the higher priced products that you might be offering. Bring people to your web site using the Internet Auctions to sell those higher priced packages. When people pay to receive your materials - they’re more likely to buy your product! If they’re really interested enough to send a little money for information on it, they are very interested . . . and they’re great prospects!

Remember, a few paragraphs ago we stated that these magazines are forced to fill up their pages with important content every single month, or in some cases every single week. Information about your web site, even a press release, is content. Stay involved with your customers. Talk with them on the telephone. Get to know them.

One of the things we like to do is hold seminars. Yes, it is a nice profit source, but it also serves another important purpose: it allows us to stay in touch with our customers, to spend some quality time with them face to face. We talk with them and discuss their wants and needs.

We recommend that you deal with your customers personally at some level. It sounds so easy, but dealing on a personal level with your customers is how to “zero in” on the exact needs of your prospects and customers - and make HUGE WADS OF CASH!

Also, stay focused on how important those people are. Show pride in the fact that there are customers. Build a bond with them. Take good care of your customers, because they’re the ones who will take good care of you. This is how “focusing” can make you thousands of dollars.

One of the best ways to bring traffic to your site is passively, where you don’t have to do anything to get it. The traffic just comes automatically. We just recently talked about link lists and how by putting one on your web site someone else might actually give you a link on their web site.

There are lots of ways you can actually passively bring traffic to your web site. What we’re going to cover is how to set up your own affiliate program to do this. It’s how to get thousands and thousands of other people to actually drive traffic to your web site for you! The best model that we can think of is a company, actually very well known today, that started out of the owner’s garage. His name was Jeff Bezos, and he had an idea to sell books on the Internet. Now, of course, his web site amazon.com is one of the biggest book sellers in the world, and the biggest book seller on the Internet.

It started in his garage with just an idea and he turned it in to millions and millions of dollars. And we believe currently he has somewhere around 400,000 affiliate sites.

All an affiliate is is a web site that links back to your web site and drives traffic your way. With the Amazon model, which is a good one to use just to show you how it all works, Amazon has about 400,000 web sites. You have probably seen them if you have been on the Internet. They have amazon.com banners or sometimes you can even search for different books right through another web site.

Then it brings you back to amazon.com and they’ll pay you a fee - a percentage of the sale on all the books sold through you. So if you’re sending lots of traffic to their site, they pay you a handsome commission every month. That’s just one way you can do it. There are lots of ways to set up an affiliate program. In fact, on a friend’s web site recently, he set up an affiliate program that was very simple, and through that affiliate program he sold thousands and thousands of dollars worth of product - and the traffic all came from other people’s web sites!

All you have to do is go out there and find people to do it. Amazon is one of the best examples. All you have to do when you decide you want an affiliate program and you’re ready to set it up is put a link on your web site that says “Become an affiliate.” There is software out there now that you can use. You can just download right to your web site or to your server, and it’ll do everything for you. Just look for affiliate programs, and you can find the software that

If you are looking for an affiliate program and you want to find one that you can use, the best way to do it is to go to other web sites that you see that have affiliate programs and look at their program. Find out what software they are using. Chances are, they are using software that wasn’t created specifically for their company, although some of them may have that.

On the bottom of their affiliate page somewhere it might have a link that says “This affiliate software is ...” and you can just click on that and it will take you to another web site. Then you too can buy that software that will set up automatically on your web server and track for you. The great thing about an affiliate program is that, if you have the right software, it is totally automated. You can actually put a link on your web site that says “Become an affiliate.” Interested websurfers visiting your site click that, it pulls up a registration form, they register, they tell you all about who they are, their web site, what kind of products they have.

The key thing to remember is that affiliate programs are easy to set up, and they can bring traffic to your web site passively, without you have to do a single thing for them. If you want to be a little less elaborate, and you want to just set up some kind of referral program without using the software that you need to set up, you can also do it very easily by just simply having a form that people fill out on your web site. There is a way to do it, and this is the way our friend actually did it when he was getting started because he didn’t know that much about the affiliate software that was out there. Whatever software you used to create your web site actually can give you a form that’s created for your web site. Your host can give you a form that actually puts hidden text in the form, so that when it’s filled out and submitted, it actually tells you without them seeing it, where they came from. You can pay that way, too. There are lots of different ways to do it. We really don’t recommend that method anymore, because there is so much software out there that you can get that does it for you automatically, that sets it up, that tracks it all, so that you don’t have to.

The key thing is to go out there and search for some software. If you were selling a product on your web site, which hopefully you are or you wouldn’t be reading this article, you need to get an affiliate program. It’s the easiest way to have other people drive sales to your site for you without you having to do the work.
