Generally, adding a link to a web page or an e-mail is just a matter of typing one line of code that references or puts a string of text that is then highlighted and presented as a link including the address that it links to.

Usually, when you are working with someone they can give you the link. Most links that you add to sites are very easy to add. You could just type a web address with most web design software. Type in any line of text that you want, highlight it, go up and click add a link, and type in the web address. Blink! You have this string of text highlighted to take you to that web site when you click on it. It can be very, very simple.

In fact, we should stress, too, that a list of links is one of the best contents that you can provide, especially if you are constantly changing and upgrading it. You can do it on one page. Headlines are the most important part of your sales letter. If you can’t draw your prospect in with your headline, you won’t get them to read your sales letter! So, you must have a headline that grabs the reader’s attention and forces them to read what you have to say!

It is fortunate for those of us in the business that headlines are so important because it just so happens that they are one of the easiest things to change and test. If you had to constantly test different sales letters, that would take you a very long time. Sometimes it takes weeks or months to create a sales letter.

But, a headline can be written in seconds. You can literally write hundreds of headlines in a day. You can throw out the ones that don’t sound right, and test only the absolute best ones!

Also, a lot of times a headline can simply be cut and pasted so that you don’t even have to change the first page of your sales letter. This makes testing headlines one of the cheapest, but most effective ways to test. And, if you find a headline that is a hit, it could spell instant success for you!

Here are the four ways to write headlines that really draw the reader to your sales letter:

  1. Try to appeal to a prospect’s self-interest in every headline you write. Your headline absolutely must tell the reader that you are offering them something that they really want and need. A self-interest benefit must be offered in your headline. Whenever you write a headline, ask yourself “How will this headline benefit the reader?” If you can’t think of a way, then trash that headline and write another one!
  2. Don’t just try to arouse curiosity by itself in the headline statement. In order to get the most response from your headline, you cannot just arouse curiosity in the reader. That will only do so much. You must combine curiosity with self-interest and benefits! The customer knows you are trying to sell them something, so curiosity by itself is not going to make them fork over the wallets!
  3. Never interject the negative side of an offer in your headline.

Never use words that people could take as negative. For example, don’t ever say, “My plan has made a few people rich.” Instead, say

Overall, tell the customer what you will do for them. Use lots of “you’s” in the copy. If you can, make your headline talk directly to them.

4) Make your offer a quick and easy way for the reader to get what he or she wants.

If you have really honestly found a way for your customer to make $1,000 a week, you need to tell them about it. But, make sure your headline sounds believable. Don’t stretch the truth just to get more people to read your sales letter.

These four things will help you write killer headlines! Even if you don’t have a product, you can practice writing headlines. Write about anything. Make something up. By practicing, you will soon pick up on ways you can turn your headlines into sales over and over again!

Unfortunately, we’ve got some bad news. The bad news is that if your web site doesn’t have this one thing, it will never make any money.

But, hey, guess what! We’ve also got some good news. It is easier than you ever thought to get this one thing!

What is this one thing? Well, this one thing is traffic! It’s people on your web site, looking at your products, and buying things.

Now, the challenge here is that there are some people who believe there are so many people on the Internet, they’re just going to stumble on to their web site and buy something.

In fact, the International Data Corporation places the global Internet population, the people on-line in 1999, at 196,000,000 people. And they say by 2003, there is going to be 502,000,000 people on the Internet.

Well, unfortunately, even once you have a web site it’s important to do advertising to promote it and to pull traffic in. Certainly you might have some people just stumbling onto your web site automatically, but why rely on that when you can actually build up your traffic? And as you’re building up that traffic on a daily basis, you are building up your profit.

There are two secrets to building up some really great traffic. The first secret is: be consistent. You need to do something consistently every single day to promote your web site and to build your traffic. This can be in 15 minutes a day, 30 minutes a day, an hour a day, or whatever. But you need to be consistent and do something every single day.

The second secret is: diversify. Don’t focus on only one type of advertising. Don’t think you’re only going to need to be on search engines, or you’re only going to send press releases.

It is a good idea to do a little bit of advertising in a lot of different avenues. For example, you might want to go out and really focus for a week on search engines. Then you might want to go place a few banner ads. You might want to go to a few other sites and get some link lists. Visit some sites and get some free classified ads out there. Place some print advertising in magazines and newsletters. Send out some press releases. Get listed in books and directories that have been mentioned on this audio cassette program.

You might find some web sites that are similar to yours, and get some reciprocal links. You might want to place some ads in e-zines. You might even want to do some direct mail and send out some postcards. But we feel it is very important that if you want to be successful in building traffic to your web site, that you diversify and you pull in traffic from a lot of different avenues instead of focusing on one. And it is very important to be consistent.

We’ve talked to too many people who either do no marketing and they think people are just going to stumble onto their site, and then they are going to make money that way, or they do marketing for maybe thirty days, and then they stop completely.

The Internet is constantly growing. People are constantly coming aboard, and some of the advertising you do is going to wear out, so you are going to need to change it, you are going to need to re-post some ads. It is very important to be consistent.

Now, as we already stated, it’s not important to do it for two hours a day, or five hours a day, or whatever. You can really do it in 15 - 30 minutes a day in your spare time. If you are doing this while you are working, you can do it before you go to work, after you come home from work in the evening, or whenever, as long as you do it consistently.

Doing something consistently like that will add up and over time you’re going to build your traffic. It might start out as a slow trickle of traffic to your web site. People coming in, looking around, maybe buying a product or two. But if you are consistent, and you use some of these different avenues to advertise, that small trickle can turn into a stream. The stream can turn into a river, and that can turn into a tidal wave of traffic. And the tidal wave of traffic really can fill your pockets and your bank account with cash.

Using this information here, you can learn to build that traffic that is going to put money into your pocket!

The magic word is - COUPONS. They’re used a lot now - not necessarily by the right people, but where they have been used they’ve been very effective.

Coupons are an opportunity you shouldn’t miss out on, particularly if you’re a local retailer with a website and you’re trying to max out that website’s traffic.

We constantly hear the complaint, “I’ve got a website and I put the address in all my ads, the yellow pages - you name it - and I just can’t seem to get people to come to the website.” Coupons can well be the solution to this quagmire - they’re such a powerful marketing vehicle!

You need to have that extra something that will bring people to your website. What we suggest is you implement coupons that are only available on your website.

When you’re designing the HTML - or text design - of your website, you create a coupon on one of your site’s pages. This page should have important information that you want to disseminate to your customer – perhaps the special of the week, or maybe what new products you have online.

For example, a movie rental store could have the latest releases and their release dates, which is a useful resource, presented on that page. But you’ve got to get the people there for the first time to get them to bookmark it and come back to that spot on your site.

Right there, for example, would be where you might want to put a coupon for offers like “rent two, get one free,” or “rent one new release, get two older movies for 50 cents.” Then, make sure to state that “This offer is limited to website users only.”

The website visitors print out that webpage and bring in the coupon - viola! Your website is working! Then, in your newspaper advertising, you state in the ad that people should, “Visit this website for specials and web exclusive deals.”

We see this done a lot now with computer companies that sell computer supplies and software - there are many web-only specials in that market. Many times, they will even offer to e-mail you those specials if you sign up and leave them your e-mail address. The companies will e-mail you with those specials, but they won’t give you all the details, instead giving you the link to go to the website to get the special.

By using the web coupon technique, you’re generating traffic to a specific page on your website to specific information that you want to get to the consumer. And there’s an added benefit - generating additional traffic to your store or location! Coupons are a breakthrough way to double your Internet sales by using a tiny scrap of paper!

The other advantage of using coupon techniques is that you can easily track what’s working for you. In the retail business coupons are valuable because they tell you if your ads are working. You can actually promote on the Internet: “Come to my site for a free ad,” or “a free discount on this product” or “two books for the price of one,” etc.

It can also work if you don’t have a store location. Then, you can actually see by the number of coupons that people do mail in with their orders, or send to you by e-mail with their orders, or use a code number that they type in that they saw on the ad . . . you can start to easily track how effective the marketing you’ve been doing is. How many people is it bringing in? How many of them have actually placed an order or purchased from you? This can be the kind of information that makes or breaks a business.

First we recommend you get some E-book software. You might think it would be really, really expensive. But there is a magical little place called Shareware.com. It’s www.shareware.com that you can go to with any web compliant browser, and they’ve got a search window.

If you just type in the word e-book you will see a selection of a wide variety, of not only sample books that you can download and read and see how they look, but also software for creating those books. And the software is shareware.

Shareware, to anybody who is new to computers, is simply software that the publisher of the software decided to let you try before you buy. You can actually download the software, install it, use it on your computer at will, and if you like the software you pay the author.

Some shareware will be what they call “crippleware” or crippled, which means they only work for thirty days. Or it might not allow you to publish the book you’ve created and actually distribute it in a form that you can easily distribute. It may only be readable inside the program until you pay them. But shareware is notoriously inexpensive. We’ve found publishing software for e-books as low as $50 in the shareware market and they’re excellent. It’s a great way to create e-books.

Now, to create an e-book, of course, this is a great way to distribute works. You can buy the rights to other people’s already published books and manuals, and create e-books. You can write your own, if you’ve got one.

You could interview an expert on a subject, transcribe the recording, and then publish the manuscript that results from that as an e-book. You can then take these (This creates an easy to distribute software file that can be transmitted from computer to computer using the Internet,) and you can then offer these books for sale. And the beauty of this is, they are very easy to set up on a web site so that people can pay you, and automatically download the e-book, and read it online, or print it out to read later.

You can also set up an even simpler way to sell them - by e-mail!

You can literally send out e-mail offering the e-book for sale, and deliver the e-book as a file attachment when they pay you. Or, deliver the e-book as a file attachment in an e-mail message that is sent to people who buy it from your web site. There are any number of ways you can do this.

You can literally build up an entire catalog of books, and be a book publisher. And there is no paper involved, there is no printing involved, you don’t have to ship anything, and you’re entirely using the Internet to even promote and sell the books.

It’s part of the revolution. It’s where we’re heading. People love these, too. This is a growing market in the Internet today. People are looking more and more for e-books they can easily download and read, and you can sell them more inexpensively than books because you are not having to pay for all that paper and postage. It is the best of all worlds, right on the Internet!

I am going to talk about another Internet content concept which I call “How To Get Richly Paid For Content That You Can Get Free.” It’s all about content on the Internet. We’ve all been telling you that. Did you know that the companies like Reuters, King Features, the Associated Press, Bloomberg, and others like them make millions of dollars every year providing news and content offline and online? This relates to my concept.

You supply web sites in the category of your interest with the news, the views, reviews, product information, etc. in the area of their expertise and the area of their interest. This should be specialized information.

Now, I’m not saying that this idea will be a direct competitor multi-million dollar corporations like Bloomberg or The Associated Press, but you can carve out a very profitable niche market on the web. You can provide several web pages updated every week with content on whatever your specific topic is. You might also publish a weekly e-zine to do this.

Now you’re probably wondering how you get paid. There are actually two ways to get paid with this technique.

Method #1 - You charge a small fee for your information and for your content - the news, the reviews, the product information, what the industry experts are saying, etc. For example, you could charge $10.00 a week. With just 200 sites that would pay you $10.00 a week for content in their field, you would make $2,000.00 a week. That adds up to more than $100,000.00 per year.

Method #2 - You can get paid to sell a few ads or a few banners on your e-zine with the content that you’re providing. This could easily bring another thirty, forty, or maybe even fifty thousand dollars a year for you on top of the $100,000.00 or more that you make by supplying the content.

Where do you get all of this information? It is going to be easier than you think, because there is a rich treasure trove of information on the web. There is more information than you want to get! You’ll have to pick and choose a little bit, but you can go to the search engines. In many cases this is not copywritten information, and you can just relay it to your e-zine and make it available to the sites at no change whatsoever. In other cases you’ll have to make a few changes which will be very minor. Therefore, you simply reformat what you’re doing in some cases, and in some cases you can use it just the way it is.

I think this is a highly specialized and important service. I also believe that this is a service that people can operate, and it can be very, very profitable.

For those of us who serve and sell to the opportunities market - selling products showing people how to make more money - the level of skepticism we face is very high. Everybody wants more money, and telling someone you can show them how to make a lot more money is very exciting to them. But people know that the amount of money they make is a weak point emotionally, so they’re that much more skeptical.

But there is a way to overcome that skepticism, and satisfy that inner logic! It’s by providing PROOF!

These things provide prospects with solid proof that the claims made in the copy are really possible, and that they do indeed come to pass. The copy loudly proclaims “Want proof? Okay, take a look right over here . . .” and the matter’s settled. This is how to instantly prove everything you say! You could set up a young sellers club.

There’s one particular stock that we have - a mutual fund - that is geared really mostly toward kids. There are four, five, or six different stocks that they have, and they rotate them about once a year or so.

They’re things like McDonald’s, Walgreen’s, and Blockbuster, things that kids understand have an understanding of as far as product is concerned.

Once a quarter, we get a newsletter from this company that has this stock out. It’s geared toward kids. It tells them a day in the life (and a crossword puzzle) where everything has to do with Walgreen’s. Another time they’ll feature sisco routers and talk about how important the Internet is, and you have a dot-to-dot on Internet connection.

Things like that really get the kids involved in something. In fact, it’s really good stock, too. We know some people who’re making some money on it, but they have this structured so that you can start out a fund with as little as $100. That is a lot lower than about anything else we’ve seen out there.

Again, it’s really geared toward kids. The kind of sellers clubs that’s been mentioned earlier could be set up like that. You can even do it in miniature because this is really something that, whether it’s your kids, like in my case, or if it’s your grandkids, they really like. Even if you have things in your attic that you want to give them and say, “Well, would you be interested in selling some of these things?” Step them through it, and help them do it.

It’s not only rewarding financially, but it is rewarding in a lot of other intangible ways. This is how you could make money simply by educating children on making money!

The answer is - through the selling of related products and services! Repeat sales from your established customers will always make you the most in profits.

Remember, if you start a promotion aimed to bring in new customers without focusing on selling to the old customers you are starting over from the beginning again. But, if you keep money coming in from those old customers, you keep a profit foundation coming in.

We went to a store called the Ninety-eight Cent Store they have here in our area. Everything in the store was ninety-eight cents or less. There’s another string of similar stores called “Dollar Store”. Just about anywhere across the country, there are stores like this. They buy end-lots, discontinued items, overstocks, and seasonal products. They had a bunch of Halloween candy that no one wants to buy any other month than October, with pumpkins and things on it.

I am going to jump in here and give some more information about e-zines. I am going to give a nine million dollar message for blowing away your e-zine competition.

One of the challenges with e-zines and electronic newsletters is, because it is so effective, a lot of companies are jumping on the band wagon and starting up their own. I don’t know if anybody out there has had this problem, but I go out and sign up for five, ten, or fifteen. All of a sudden they are coming every week and I have to decide, in my busy schedule, which ones I read and which ones I don’t read. Pretty soon the ones that I don’t read I un-subscribe.

And that’s a real challenge. E-zines are very popular right now, but that’s because they’re so effective. If you want to blow away your e-zine competition and be one of the top e-zines that people read constantly, you’ve got to use some tricks to make sure that your e-zine does get read and goes to the top of the list.

Number one - you can have an ongoing prize drawing. Every single week, every single month, or however often your e-zine comes out, you can offer a prize to your subscribers. It can be a discount off of your products. It can be a free product at your site. It can actually be cash if you want it to be. But the only thing they have to do is sign up for your e-zine. It is an absolutely free sign-up. Just offer that prize every week or every month, and you will find people coming in to find out (1) what your prize is for that week, so they want to read your e-zine to find out what your prize is, and (2) find out if they won. Certainly you want to contact the person directly and not just notify them in the e-zine. But people are curious. “Who won that product? Who is the winner?” You can even have runner-up prizes. You can have a grand prize and then two other prizes for other people.

That is one way to get people every week, every month, or whenever your e-zine comes out, to open it up, read it, and be excited about getting your e-zine. That is really what you want, and that’s what these tricks are going to do.

Get people excited about getting your e-zine because I know right now when I get e-zines, unless it is one of the top ones that I am always excited about reading, I actually dread some of them coming in. It’s like, “I would like to get to it, but I’ve got so much other work to do. I’ll file it away here on my e-mail software.” Pretty soon I’ve got a hundred of these that I’ve never read and I just delete them. You want people to be so excited that they will take a moment to read through it, or print it off and read it later.

The second way to get people into your e-zine is to offer original content that they can’t get anywhere else. I believe having original content on your e-zine that is cutting edge and brand new information is important.

One of the challenges with e-zines is they’re having a difficult time writing original content every single week. So they go out and they have some authors contribute to their e-zines. What you find now is you might subscribe to ten e-zines and they all have the same articles.

That’s not exciting to people! If you’ve got the same old run of the mill articles in your e-zine that everybody else has, why would anybody want to open up yours and read it? They can go read another one and get the exact same content.

You need to make sure, whether it’s just a paragraph, a tip, or a whole article, that you’ve got some original content in your e-zine that people can not get anywhere else.

Number 3 - You might have a quiz or trivia in your e-zine. You might have a quick question about whatever your niche is that you are serving. You might have a trivia that you might answer way down at the end.

People like this type of thing. It is kind of a brain teaser. I wouldn’t just throw it in there arbitrarily - you definitely want to have it focused on what your niche is interested in. It is something interesting that stimulates them, though. “Hey, I wonder what the quiz is this week or what the trivia is this week.”

Number 4 - You want to offer news related to your e-zine topic. People are so busy right now that if you can take some of the hottest headlines from your niche market and include them in your e-zine, they’re realizing that you are offering them a separate service.

They now don’t have to go out to all these different web sites serving their market. They can now go to your e-zine, open it up when they get it, and you’re going to have the top things that they need to know in their market. That is a great service and it gets people to read your e-zine.

Number 5 - You might have a poll or a survey. This is great for product development. You ask them their specific buying habits. You ask them what they like and what they don’t like. You ask them different things that would interest them, have them respond, and then in the next issue you publish the results.

People are going to read that next issue after they’ve responded to a poll or survey because they want to know what the results are. This is a great way to create products, because you can ask people, “What is your one major problem in this market?” If you find that 80% of the people have the same problem, you can create a product to solve that problem and sell it to those people who are now subscribing to your e-zine. That cannot only be a great way to get people involved in your e-zine but also to also create products.

Number 6 - Jokes. People like jokes. I wouldn’t use humor excessively. You might at the very end of your newsletter offer just a quick joke of the day, or something that is funny that they would be interested in. A little bit of humor in an e-zine never hurts, but you don’t want to over-do it.

Number 7 - Free stuff. People love things that are free, and if you offer maybe one hot free thing that your niche market would be interested in in your e-zine, people are going to open that up to find out what freebie they are going to get this week.

There are a lot of things out on the Internet that are free. Believe me, in just a few moments of searching, you can have a list of ten, or twenty, or thirty things that are absolutely free of charge for your niche market. You only have to offer maybe one, two, or three every single e-zine issue and people are going to want to open it up and find out what it is.

Number 8 - Recommended web sites. There are so many web sites on the Internet right now that you’re going to give your e-zine subscribers a great service (you’re going to do them a great service) if you will offer them five recommended web sites every single issue of your e-zine.

You’ve got to remember, people are constantly bombarded with web sites, so they go to the search engines, they do a search, and 100,000 web sites pop up, and they’re not sure which ones to go to. If you do a little bit of searching and offer a service where you say, “Look, open up the e-zine. Here towards the end there are five of the hottest recommended web sites for this week.” you’re going to get a lot of people opening up that e-zine. Remember, that is what you want them to do. Looking for the e-zine, opening it up, and reading through it to get information.

Number 9 - You always want to offer a teaser for the next issue. You want to give them a reason to look for the next e-zine. I am amazed that people don’t do this more often because once they’ve read that e-zine issue, it is a good possibility that when the next one comes up they might remember what you offered in the previous one.

“In the next issue we’re going to give you the seven hottest tips for this and the six hottest tips for this.” and, “We just found an amazing freebie for free software that normally costs you $100.00.” If you do something like that, it is going to stick in their brain and they’re going to look for that next issue and be very excited about it versus, “I’ve got 100 e-zines here. Which ones should I pick?”
