Make Sure You’ll
Make Your Profit!
 

One of the questions you might have with this is: how do you protect yourself from having it sold for less than what you’re actually going to be able to buy it for? That is a big concern.

That is a legitimate concern, because you don’t want to be out there selling products and accidentally have it sold for less than you can buy it for. You have to be protected that way, and you can be. Most auction sites, now, have what is called a “reserve price.” So what you can do is go in and set the prices to what the minimum amount you will accept for it is. You can start the bidding lower than that, or you can actually start the bidding there at that price. That protects you then, and what that tells people is you’re bidding on this, but if it does not sell for the minimum that I’ll be willing to accept, I’m not contractually obligated to sell it to you at that price.

That’s something you can do without having an inventory, without having any kind of an office space - and you can do it right off of your kitchen table.

Just sit down and search out products that are selling well and then find places locally. Either work out a deal exclusively with them, where they know what you’re doing, or, even if you don’t want to do that, you can ask them what their best prices are on the products that you are interested in selling on the auction sites and then go and sell them for more. Make a profit and take the difference.

Radio advertising may be a lot cheaper than you might imagine. You are simply buying air. A lot of times you can get a special rate which helps to keep the cost down.

A lot of times non-regular hours are even better than regular hours, because people are not as busy. During regular hours people listen to the radio for their own enjoyment. They are busy, and their minds are anywhere but on your advertisement.

That is why people are more likely to respond if you advertise during off hours. They are more relaxed and have more time to listen and think about what you are saying. This way, you can get the hours that no one else wants - which are usually cheaper for you to run your ad in - and often get a better response.

The magic word is - COUPONS. They’re used a lot now - not necessarily by the right people, but where they have been used they’ve been very effective.

Coupons are an opportunity you shouldn’t miss out on, particularly if you’re a local retailer with a website and you’re trying to max out that website’s traffic.

We constantly hear the complaint, “I’ve got a website and I put the address in all my ads, the yellow pages - you name it - and I just can’t seem to get people to come to the website.” Coupons can well be the solution to this quagmire - they’re such a powerful marketing vehicle!

You need to have that extra something that will bring people to your website. What we suggest is you implement coupons that are only available on your website.

When you’re designing the HTML - or text design - of your website, you create a coupon on one of your site’s pages. This page should have important information that you want to disseminate to your customer perhaps the special of the week, or maybe what new products you have online.

For example, a movie rental store could have the latest releases and their release dates, which is a useful resource, presented on that page. But you’ve got to get the people there for the first time to get them to bookmark it and come back to that spot on your site.

Right there, for example, would be where you might want to put a coupon for offers like “rent two, get one free,” or “rent one new release, get two older movies for 50 cents.” Then, make sure to state that “This offer is limited to website users only.”

The website visitors print out that webpage and bring in the coupon - viola! Your website is working! Then, in your newspaper advertising, you state in the ad that people should, “Visit this website for specials and web exclusive deals.”

We see this done a lot now with computer companies that sell computer supplies and software - there are many web-only specials in that market. Many times, they will even offer to e-mail you those specials if you sign up and leave them your e-mail address. The companies will e-mail you with those specials, but they won’t give you all the details, instead giving you the link to go to the website to get the special.

By using the web coupon technique, you’re generating traffic to a specific page on your website to specific information that you want to get to the consumer. And there’s an added benefit - generating additional traffic to your store or location! Coupons are a break-through way to double your Internet sales by using a tiny scrap of paper!

The other advantage of using coupon techniques is that you can easily track what’s working for you. In the retail business coupons are valuable because they tell you if your ads are working. We have a formula we use to create great offers - we call it the P.A.S. formula. It’s how to get rich by helping other people get what they want!

“P” stands for “Problem.” Every product that is sold because the customer has a problem - a problem that the product is designed to solve. Therefore, it’s logical in sales copy to bring up the problem. When you do this, you make the copy personally relevant to the prospect.

You want that prospect to be sitting there reading your copy saying to himself, “Yep, that’s happened to me before, and it frustrates me to no end. So tell me what you can do about it.”

“A” stands for agitation. By bringing up the problem in the sales copy, it’s agitating the prospect - it’s reminding them that they hate to have that problem and setting them up to be happy to hear you have something that could remedy that problem.

“S” stands for solution. Now, you show the prospect that you have the solution to their problems - your product can be the solution so they never have to suffer from that problem again! You show them that what you offer has the solution they desperately want - they get excited about the possibility, and they want to buy what you offer!

Another thing that he’s doing really well is on page #3 and #4. He’s using a formula that we call P.A.S. He’s bringing up a problem. He’s showing an example of a typical direct response marketing business and all of the high costs, all of the things you have to go through, and all of the headaches and hassles. He’s bringing up the problem. That’s the “P” part. The “A” part is he is kind of agitating it a little bit by making you feel the problem yourself. Then, for the “S” he’s offering the solution. Now we want to talk about the twelve hottest products you can sell on the online auctions. Furniture and all kinds of antiques are certainly great sellers. All kinds of antiques, from dolls to furniture, etc. But most of us are not antique dealers and may not know enough about them. So we want to talk about twelve things that are selling like crazy - like hot cakes - that you can sell.

#1. Coins
A lot of people are coin collectors, but you can also learn about this. Also, on the Internet, all kinds of foreign coins are sold; pesos from Mexico, and coins from Brazil, and from Great Britain. These are very cheap coins. Some people have packaged these up, like one hundred coins of the world, and they have gone for auction for $60 and $70.

Many of those coins, like the Mexican peso and Brazilian one peso coin are worth less than a penny. That’s something to think about. More good sellers are Indian Head pennies, and old silver, and even some current silver that’s not that old - what’s called junk silver - but it is still silver, and is very popular.

We’ve noticed that some people bid this stuff up far more than what you can buy it for. By the way, some of our reference material comes from Mike Baker, who has a book called How To Strike It Rich On E-Bay. We recommend that you read it. It’s a very enlightening little book. And also we’ve used a book by Steve Lockman, who has been selling a lot of coins on the Internet, and other items, called What Is Selling Best On E-Bay And Other Auction Sites.

#2. Antique and Contemporary Weapons
Second, we want to talk about pocket and hunting knives, both old and new. Swords are also very popular. That’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it is making a lot of money, so we felt we should pass it on.

#3. Watches and Rings
People are really into some unusual watches and rings. Some of the turquoise watches and jewelry that comes out of New Mexico is popular again. It was popular about twenty years ago, then pretty soon nobody would wear it. Now, once again, it is becoming popular, and if you can buy that stuff up at a good price, you can double and triple your money.
Music boxes are very, very popular, and the auctions just have bid them way up. They’re another top item.

Another popular item is Native American arts and crafts. Again, we can talk about states like New Mexico and Arizona. But, anything to do with Indian arts and crafts are selling very well. Old arrowheads are popular, blankets - all sorts of things that are coming out of the Indian nations.

Religious items, whether they be Christian, Jewish, or Islamic are also very, very popular. In the Middle East they have something called “worry beads.” We had an Arab friend many years ago that gave us some. They don’t cost much money, yet we’ve seen them bid up to $25. So, religious items are popular.

We have read that rare rocks and fossils are very popular.

Bedspreads and quilts are very, very popular.

Mexican crafts are popular. People who live in Arizona and New Mexico, California, and Texas can slip down past the border and pick up some Mexican arts and crafts extremely cheap, and yet double and triple your money on the E-Bay.

Another thing that’s popular is autographs. If you know, or have, anything that was signed by a famous person - a rock star, movie stars, presidents, or whoever - they are really bidding these up big time on E-Bay and the other auction sites.

Another thing that is popular is the holiday season items. All kinds of unusual stuff about Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and Halloween is extremely popular.

These are just some of the things that are really selling well among the dozen or so best selling items on E-Bay today. You can sell thousands of other items, too - all sorts of books sell, there is no question about that, but you must remember with books - because we’ve been up there and we’ve sold some books and we’ve had three or four different companies buy books from us and resell them on E-Bay and Yahoo and other auction sites - the only problem with books is, you must buy them cheap. Or, if you produce them, perhaps you will produce them cheap enough that you can take the big discounts.

For example, a $25 book might get auctioned off at $6 or $7. Now if you bought it for $2, or if you printed it for $2, that’s no problem.

Writing Can Be Easier
Than TYING YOUR SHOES!
 

This article really deals with trying to make the entire process as simple as possible, because I know we’ve discussed how people have the perception that writing is difficult. One of the shortcuts that I’ve found that works best for me is when I don’t have to write anything, and everything is done for me. One of the best self-published products that I can think of where that is the case is products that are just a compilation of actual real-life examples.

Let me give you an example to really explain what I’m talking about. A couple of years ago when a friend of ours’ wife was wanting to create a resume to get a job as a veterinarian, they went to the bookstore, and there were literally dozens and dozens of books on how to write a resume. These things were huge - a hundred pages, two hundred pages - and you had to read the whole thing just to figure out how in the heck to write a resume.

Eventually they came upon a book which was 100-150 pages, but instead of teaching you how to write a resume, it was a whole book of actual resumes, and they were each in different categories depending on the type of job you were trying to get. It didn’t matter if you were trying to be an airline pilot, an IRS agent, or a veterinarian, inside was a 37 real-life resume that you could use as an example to create your own. Our friends bought that book, and it made the process very simple.

A lot of companies do the exact same thing. There’s a company that has a book full of actual business letters so that if you need to write a certain type of letter, maybe a collection letter or something like that, you can flip to page 243, see how someone else wrote a collection letter, and write yours along those same lines.

Another option is business forms. Maybe you’re not sure what type of business forms. You can create a compilation of all sorts of different types of business forms and sell that to businesses.

There are also a lot of marketing companies who have put together compilations of sales letters because people are always looking at how somebody else sold a particular product, what type of guarantee, or what type of pricing they used. Having a compilation of sales letters from other companies, especially if they’re successful sales letters, really helps. Those type of products sell very well.

If you’re working with an Internet service provider, such as our own company that charges you a little bit of something to do a little design work (it might cost you 10 bucks now and then to have this idea of mine implemented once or twice a month), it’s dirt cheap.

We spend a little bit of time, it’s very targeted and powerful! Exchange links or banner ads. Let’s look at links first, with other Websites. This will draw people to your Site.

When you’re out browsing the Web, look for Sites that are similar to (but not directly competitive with) your Website. Just e-mail the Webmaster of that Site and, almost everyone of these Sites that you know of - any good Websites have got a place where you can leave some e-mail and offer to exchange a link to their Site with your Site. These people are ready, willing, and able to help you make more money with your website!

Essentially, all you have to do to get them to do this is get their Web address (you already have that because you just visited their Site - it’s showing right in your Web browser) and give them, in your e-mail, your Website’s Web address and a brief one sentence description of what your Website is.

Most web sites are like dead ends. They go to your web site and it’s a dead end. They can go no further. A “money magnet” web site is a web site people come to so they can go to other places. This is something people will really hang onto because you can actually turn a few niches into amazing Internet riches. You go out there and you market to a very small group of people interested in one particular thing.

Let’s say for example, you market to people who collect things. Maybe they collect salt and pepper shakers or coins or stamps. You can market to people who are pet owners. You can even market to people who own a specific pet. Maybe a cat, maybe a dog, Maybe something exotic like lizards, snakes, tarantulas or whatever.

There are people interested in arts and crafts. There are magicians. There are hunters. There are people who like to cook. All of these are niche markets - very small markets. They don’t have millions and millions of people in them. They might have hundreds of thousands and then in some cases maybe lower millions.

Not everybody in the world is interested in cooking, not everybody in the world is interested in magic or collecting salt and pepper shakers or stamps. These are just small markets. What you’ll find when you get into that small market is they’re very hungry markets. They’re very excited about their topic. They’re very excited about whatever they do and whatever they’re interested in, and they buy. They don’t buy once - they buy again and again and again and again.

There are a lot of people getting rich on the Internet, but not by trying to compete with the Internet Wal-Mart or Amazon.com or any of the large multi-million dollar companies on the Internet. Instead, what they’re doing is they’re finding a niche - a very small market - and in many cases, it’s a small market that they themselves have an interest in and they’re just servicing that market and they’re getting rich. Those people in that market are hungry and they don’t have the interest for a short amount of time. They’re hungry over a long period of time and they come back and buy again and again and again.

One of the great things and side benefits of working with a niche market, especially one you have an interest in, is you really build up a relationship with your customers, and that is something powerful that a lot of these larger websites can’t do.

Can I get a discount on it?”

You’re going to build up a relationship with people so that you can build up that e-mail list and whenever a new video comes in or a great effect comes in or a good trick that you’ve just seen on T.V. and you’ve got it in stock, you can go back to those customers and say, “I just saw this great video. Since you have that relationship with your customers, in many cases you’re going to get a large response from them because you’re going back to a small niche market of people who you have a personal relationship with. That’s something that even the huge companies that hire tens of thousands of people, working on the Internet every single day, dealing with customers every single day, can’t build up - that personal relationship - because they don’t share the same type of interests. They’re trying to be the Wal-Mart of the Internet, and you have a real strength of being that niche on the Internet.

Why focus on a niche? They’re easier to start. Is it easier to sell maybe five products to a niche or try to be an Amazon.com and have to stock thousands and thousands of products? It’s easier to start small. Plus, you can beat the big guy.

A lot of these bigger stores on the Internet cannot service the smaller market because they would have to go out and literally pack up with things that only a very small market would buy and there’s not enough profit there for them to do that. So they can’t service a lot of the small markets. You can go out and very quickly and easily service many small markets if you choose to, and make a killing on that.

Plus you can charge more because if you’re going to a target market where people have that interest, they’re willing to spend more for what you have, especially if it’s something they have a real interest in. So instead of selling ten or twenty dollar products, all of a sudden you’re selling two hundred, three hundred, five hundred, a thousand dollar products and they’re coming back and buying more and more and more.

Do not ever pass up the chance to have a reporter do a feature article on your business. A lengthy article, written by a professional, will attract even more attention than a two- or three-paragraph news release.

A reporter also knows how to make a story interesting and will usually come up with angles you may have overlooked that will serve to promote your product. Reporters are always looking for interesting subjects to write about. If your story is interesting, all you have to do is make the right connection.

One feature story about your product, service, or company has the potential to make you rich. Don’t go for a feature story right away, though. Let the editors get to know you. Give them time to get an idea of who you are and what you have to offer them and their readers. Let them give you a write-up or two. Try to stay in touch with them, and try to build a relationship with them.

It’s the Consumer Information Center out of Pueblo, Colorado.

You’ve seen all the ads, the little consumer information booklets, pamphlets, and what have you that you can order for fifty cents or a buck. They’ve got millions. They are basically the publishing outlet or sales outlet arm for the federal government’s publication service.

They have a website at http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov where you’ll find categories such as: cars, children, education, employment, housing, health, food, money, small business, travel, and more. There’s a button link there that actually says “and more”. Click on these button links and you’ll find that there are dozens of their pamphlets you can order on-line.

You don’t have to order a thing. What’s really wonderful about web technology is they are now making these pamphlets and the information in them available to you to read right on-line by clicking on the pamphlets. Many of them come in Adobe Acrobat format, which means they’re already typeset and looking really good.

Now here’s the secret. When it produces one of these booklets, the federal government CANNOT COPYRIGHT THAT MATERIAL. It is owned by every citizen of the United States. It was produced with taxpayer dollars.

Now I want to caution you: there are some pamphlets and information, such as some from this Consumer Information Center makes available, that are produced and copyrighted by various companies for the federal government. They may place a restriction such as it being free to use only for educational purposes. Most, however, are yours free of charge.

There’s one drawback to this information - most of it is deadly, dry, and boring. It’s filled with the facts, figures, and information you need from federal government agencies. You can then wrap this information into your own products very easily, and flesh out and use snippets of them.

In fact, what I found really fascinating is some of these pages and online pamphlets are actually designed as very pretty websites that stand on their own. You can literally put together links on your website that jump to these pages and offer the information on your website, as if it was from your website but jump people over to that page and then come back to your site. You would not even have to take the information, just push people over to it.

Now the secret to making this stuff...

The reason I said it’s dry is because of what it’s missing. The one element that I wanted to bring up that is the one thing people most want to know about is other people. They want information, but I think one of the key secrets is that the real power of having other people create your product for you is that it’s people telling you this.

It’s different people, you’ve got more then one person involved in that product, people telling stories, war stories, and what have you, about how they’ve survived this or that or come up with this or that new technique or new idea.

It’s the information being imparted through people. I wanted to mention that because it really does have a lot of power. People are the power. Look at People Magazine. I thought, what an idiot idea. That shows you where I went with that. And they’re one of the most popular magazines in America today. The bottom line is everybody wants to know all about people.

In Every Ad You Create In Order To Make

Your prospects will want to know seven things when they read your ad. Your ability to answer these questions will determine how high your response will be.

It’s not just a question of whether you answer them, though. It’s also important to ask yourself HOW you answer them. You must answer these questions in the most motivational way possible, showing prospects that they truly have an advantage if they take advantage of your offer.

Get creative. And remember, your prospects want to know only what’s in it for them.
Here are the seven questions your ad must answer:

  1. What is the product?
  2. How much does it cost?
  3. Is there a bonus if they buy?
  4. Is there a refund guarantee?
  5. Are there payment options?
  6. Is there a special incentive?
  7. Are there any restrictions, such as a limited-time offer?

How to Quickly Build a List of People Who Are Eager to Buy Your Products!

For every Internet auction that a bidder wins, there are other bidders - sometimes many more - that didn’t win. They did bid, though, and they were competing for what you had to offer - and that makes them excellent, proven prospects for your products in the future!

Every Internet auction site we’ve come across has a list of all the e-mail addresses of those who bid on each auction. You can go through the list of who bid on the product you put up for auction, capture those e-mail addresses, and make offers for products related to the one you had up for bid!

The Internet auction site records all of the names and e-mail addresses themselves - you can let the auction sites do all the work for you!

These people already bid on something you offered once, so it’s quite clear that they like that type of product, and are willing to buy it. Therefore, they are great prospective customers!

Send them e-mails - thank them for taking part in your auction. Tell them you’re sorry they didn’t have the winning bid, but you do have some very similar (or identical, if you had more but you just put one up for auction) products that they could purchase directly from you!

By doing this, you are able to collect leads. You can build a list of people that will very likely buy something from you in the future. Using this technique, you can quickly build a list of people who are eager to buy your products!
