We have a friend who’s into handcrafts, and likes to make things out of beads - an unusual handcraft these days, and isn’t really widespread. She makes beaded jewelry, beaded handbags, tote bags, and little medicine bags.

She used to attend craft shows with what she made, but she lived in Topeka, Kansas, and there people really weren’t that interested in beadwork - they simply had no appreciation for it. She did sell some of what she made, but she found that she couldn’t bring in nearly what they were really worth. 

She started advertising her wares on a little website and testing that idea. She not only found several people elsewhere in the country who couldn’t even find this sort of handwork where they live, she also brought in quite a bit of money - which they paid for those items!

She even found some retailers in different parts of the country who started buying several items at a time from her and paying her more than what she could have sold them for at the local handcraft shows - they were paying wholesale, marking them up, and finding buyers for them!

Again, handcrafts or one-of-a-kind items are just ideal for auctions. No matter how unusual it is - in fact, the more unusual the better! You will find buyers looking for just that type of unusual item on these Internet Auctions. This is how unique handcrafts can bring you cash from all around the globe! Just because something exists in mass quantities here doesn’t mean it does elsewhere in the world - and where it’s rare, it’ll tend to be very valuable and wanted!

We would recommend going to the handcraft shows. Almost every town of any decent size has handcraft malls where you have several home workers who either do this as a hobby or as a full-time job. They have a small booth or section and there might be dozens of them. What you want to do is look for the unusual ones, the ones that come closest to original artwork, or even original artists who have a booth or photographers that do unusual work. 

You can make an arrangement to make their items available for auction to the world. They don’t have to worry about it. They can keep maintaining their store or going to the shows and selling what they want, but you take selected items, sell them at an auction like e-Bay or any other Auction Sites, and take a commission! 

Soon you start becoming the “Handcraft guy” or the “Weaved Basket man” or whatever specialty you really start to focus in on.
