We recently talked to a man who started out selling books, manuals, and home study courses on the Internet. He sold some home business courses, and collected a few of them.
Unfortunately, he found that with the new financial books, manuals, and home study courses that were out, most of the product sells at the auction sites for a discount of between 50% - 75%. He couldn’t get maximum dollars.

If you’re selling a home study course worth $195 and you only paid $25 for it and it sells for $70, you still made a nice little profit, a good profit. Of course, if you paid too much for it and have to discount it 50%, 60%, or 70%, you’re not going to make much money.
He switched from the financial moneymaking products to some things that he was interested in, like baseball cards and matchbooks. He did better with those. His wife, meanwhile, is a collector of those plates they sell on TV - Disney plates, the Hamilton collection, celebrity plates, Elvis plates, the Beatles plates - you name it, she probably has it.
The real niche for him turned out to be American Indian artifacts and plates. She has both artifacts and also a huge plate collection that she kept adding to. They started dealing in them, and BOOM! - it just took off like crazy. He said that some plates that his wife purchased for $20 would sell for $100 or more.
The nice thing about Internet Auctions is, for only a couple of dollars, you can test something. For a couple of dollars more, you can test something else. Don’t be afraid to test dozens of different things until you find your niche. Then, we think it’s important to build up that continuity by selling the same thing. Specialize and make those back-end sales.
If someone buys a plate of a Comanche Warrior, that person will also buy other Indian art, whether it’s on the prairie or a woman with her baby or whatever it is. In this article I’m going to show you how to write a full-length book. If you can do that, you can do anything. You can do cassette tapes, reports, or whatever you come up with! If you can write a 200-page book, for example, you can do anything.
I say, pick the topic that’s going to be a good one. Make sure you do your research and know there’s a market for it. We always find the markets before we pick our topic. Then, I’d say write your ad, sales letter, or both, and the table of contents. Fill it with benefits. Even before you start writing this book, manual, or whatever, you want to know what you’re going to put in it. You want to fill it with benefits. It will help you write it. So when you have the advertising material, you then have to put in the book or manual every benefit that you mentioned in your ad.
Next, start gathering material. Go to the library. You’ll find many books covering almost any topic! If you go to the Internet, you’ll find ten times more. I don’t care what the topic is - you can go to the search engines and find more about that topic than you ever wanted to know. So, between the library and the search engines, you’re going to have all the reference material you absolutely could ever want. |

The more you massage their ego, the more likely they are to work with you. If you visit their site, look at it and see how it’s laid out. Talk to them a little bit about that. Tell them how impressed you are with their website and you would like a moment of their time to ask them a few questions that you can share with your customers and your visitors. You will find that a lot of them will be happy to do that.
The key is to search out websites that are in the market that you are in. This is so you have people (when you’re advertising and when you’re telling people about these interviews on your website) that it’s an interview with a person who they would be interested in hearing an interview from.
Again, we think that the best way to do this is to not list entire interviews. However, you could probably go back and archive them after you’ve gone ahead and published the entire interview. Maybe, if you’ve interviewed a certain website owner and you have ten pages worth of interview notes, maybe you only publish one page at a time. Maybe you could publish a page a day, or maybe publish a couple three pages every week.
Tell people that this is not the entire interview. Come back next week or tomorrow to get more secrets and to learn more from this interview or to read another couple of pages or whatever you end up doing. That’s just one thing you can do with this idea. |

Another take on this would be to turn the interview into audiotapes that you could give away. You could put them together in a package and sell them or make an audio newsletter. Each interview you do could be made into one audiotape. You could give them away. Maybe people would pay you a couple of dollars for shipping and handling on the tape. Maybe on the outside of the packaging you could list your website.
Then, of course, on the interview you could mention that you are the owner of such and such a website and give your website address throughout the interview or at the beginning and end of the interview. Use it as a vehicle to bring people to your website, also.

I have to say that one of the most profitable things that you can do is work with charities. In the “brick and mortar world,” which is how we refer to things off-line (not on the Internet), there are people who put together charity auctions, sales, and benefits that take a percentage of the sales as a standard procedure and generate the rest of the profit for the charity.
Charity auctions can be one incredible way to make loads of money! We’ve seen some people doing this already. You could make some really good money AND help a worthy cause while you’re doing it, which carries a double benefit.

Here’s one of the benefits of working with a charity: if you’re going to put together an auction for your church to benefit your church, you would speak with the pastor and arrange for them to promote the auction to the church membership.
The same thing could happen if you worked through a school. Offer to put together an auction for them. People will literally donate the items to the auction. This is the power of charity: they donate the items and then you put them up on the Internet Auction sites for the church for a very small percentage of the total take. For example, if you want to make a profit, or you’re just a good-natured soul and you really want to help the cause, by all means, you’re free to donate your time and energy to the auction. There’s actually money to be made doing this for charitable causes.
These people would donate the items, you put them up, and whatever you sell, you’ll take out your percentage and pay the charity. This is the kind of thing that can get some real publicity - one of the powerful things that we see about this whole concept. It’s unique and it’s new. Churches, schools, and various other causes for decades and centuries have had charity auctions where the actual membership comes and buys the stuff from each other. It winds up being, basically, a garage sale with bidding.
What makes this very unusual is that you would sell the items to the world at large
on e-Bay or any of the other big auction sites. This is newsworthy. In fact, we would recommend this. You could get in touch with your local T.V. and radio stations and your local newspapers and present them with a press release to the effect that your church or school is holding a charity auction. |

The items will be posted to the world via the Internet, and it will be one of the first in the community. Really play it up. Invite the community to donate items to the cause, which would bring even more people in. Working with a charity like this gives you a good central location where people can actually bring the items. If you’re doing it for a church, for example, they could bring the items and drop them off at the church or at the school gym so you don’t even have to involve your home office, your address, or information to contact you. They’d literally work through the church, but you’re putting it up on the Internet Auctions for them.
The other benefit, of course, is that when people are buying charity items at a charity auction, they routinely bid pretty low. We’ve seen things go dirt cheap at these charity auctions that really shouldn’t. They know that the item is donated. It didn’t cost anything for the church. If somebody donates a bicycle that’s worth $150 and only gets $70 bid on it, they don’t care because it didn’t cost the church anything and the church got $70 out of it. The guy that donated it gets to write off $150 if they do it right. It works out for everybody in that respect.
From our own experience, we can say that, by putting the auction it on the Internet, you will get a much higher price for every item. They don’t even have to have anybody present at the time when they hold the auction. So they actually free themselves up. It’s not even something that would override the auctions that they normally do, which can be kind of a social gathering. This is something that you can do during the year in between their ordinary auctions.! |

The downside to this is very small. There’s just up! You have a newsworthy item and you’re benefiting a charitable cause. You could even put that in your bidding, but we wouldn’t. As you put the items up on the Internet Auctions, we would recommend that you do not necessarily mention that it is a charity auction item. That would create a mental thought that, “Oh gosh, I’ll bid low because it’s a charity item.” You could test that either way. We would recommend that you test some by mentioning that it is a charity because it could attract people who might not otherwise bid on the item, too, to help a charitable cause.
This is another excellent way that you could literally set yourself up in business. Perhaps you could even establish yourself in your community as having a real selling profile or a unique selling angle in that you focus on charity auctions, putting them together, and putting them on the Internet for various charities. |

If your purpose is to make sales, and you need all the room you have to tell that story, do not even consider pictures. Learning how to write ad copy is key. You should learn how to write ad copy, because, in our business advertising copy is what brings in all of the money. The printed sales material that we send to people and the ads that we run, and paint the picture of the product or service that we want to sell.
Our ad copy is our "storefront." As good advertising copywriters, we have to do everything possible to get the customers and prospects to "look through the windows," see the products and want them.
We do this with words. Words and phrases are our tools. The easiest way to get really rich in mail order in this business is to learn to compel people to buy with the ad copy that you write.
It may take a lot of time, and there is a lot for you to learn. But this skill really is worth learning.

For example, let’s say you’re selling a book full of remedies for common little maladies. The sales copy might have either a section of these or have them interspersed throughout the copy . . .
“One little vegetable that can boost your memory (Answer on page #22).
“Three foods to help fight Alzheimer’s Disease” (Answer on page #130).
“Breakfast foods that will keep your energy level up and your drowsiness LOW (Answer on page #560).”
This is INCREDIBLY enticing to prospects! They can see what sort of information is in your book, and see where the answers are . . . BUT THEY DON’T HAVE THE BOOK TO GET THIS VALUABLE INFORMATION!
Therefore, they end up with a strong urge to buy your book!
Also, there’s another good technique at work here. The third example above states that the answer is on page #560. By picking an example question from so far into the book, the prospect will determine that the book is large and full of information - after all, it has at least 560 pages - and is therefore a good value! |

Now creating the banner is not a problem, because there’s a tutorial there that tells you how to do it.

Sure they do! Anything can be a link - even a photo - if you click on it and it takes you to another site. You can make anything on a site a link to another site! A banner ad is merely a graphic that displays some text or something that entices people to click on it, but is actually a link to another site. Therefore, banners on your site then can help you in the ratings on the search engines.
The more links to your site, the more popular the search engines consider your site and, therefore, its status elevated in the search engines. This way you’re not only advertising, you’re also increasing the position on your search engine. There is a multitude of benefits involved here, and that’s why this is such an important tip.
The other thing I want to advise you to do is carefully read the instructions and the “rules” for each of these banner exchanges. There have been many web businesses. It is a little more complex because it requires the acquisition of some software and setting up your web site for an exchange. There are some people now that are actually offering services free of charge that display other ads where they’ll set it up for you and you just provide the link.
Now I just want to add that animated banners are definitely worth the extra effort to create. I understand there is some research that says that an animated banner will have up to seven times the click-through ratio as a non-animated banner. If that’s the case, it is certainly worth your effort to animate!
There are all sorts of help for creating them - they’re not that difficult! An animated banner can be as simple as words that display and change so you can get a whole sentence into that small space. It’s something that catches the eye!
Another neat trick that I see used often is making a banner ad look somewhat like a bar with a “click here” icon, or asking a question with multiple choice answers so that people actually are somewhat tricked into clicking on it to answer, but instead it takes you to another site.

Often, your small ad will outpull a large ad because smaller ads cost less money. Since the cost of running the ad is lower, you can actually make more profit with the smaller ad.
