The Four Opportunities You Have To “Hook” Your Customer!

There are four places in a sales letter that you have to hook your customer and make them keep moving closer and closer to the sale! Many sales letters only contain 2 of these four things, and it is costing the business thousands of dollars in missed selling opportunities!

These four things that every sales letter must have are:

  1. The Headline. The headline is the main attention-getter. It must reach out and grab the reader’s attention and make them want to read the sales letter! Almost every business is using headlines in the sales letters.

  2. The Subheads. These are the smaller headlines that are placed throughout the sales letter. These serve two purposes. First, they help break up the copy. Subheads make the copy look easier to read, so the customer will more likely read it. Second, they help keep the reader’s attention. Subheads let them know what’s coming up. Subheads are not used by a lot of businesses, and they are losing money because of it!

  1. The P.S. The PostScript is a very important part of the sales letter. In fact, if you have one, most people will tend to read it before they ever read the sales letter. Your P.S. should be used to restate the offer, or to tell them about late-breaking news that can save them money! Here you could tell them about your sale price, etc. Again, many businesses are not using the P.S. in their letters. Don’t make this mistake. Maybe your P.S. just says "If you are reading this P.S. before you have read the rest of the sales letter, shame on you. Now, go to the first page and begin reading there! You will be glad you did!"

  2. The Order Form. This obviously should always be present! You need to tell people to place an order. Also, you can use your order form to put a little more sales punch in your presentation. You can sum the offer up one last time on the order form.

The Seven Step Strategic Approach To A Million Dollar Internet Back-End!

In this article I’m going to cover a seven step strategic approach to a million dollar Internet back-end. You’ve read it in our materials in the past, you’ll read it today, and you’ll hear it again and again whenever marketers talk. You can’t survive on your front-end sales alone.

Many times, the best front-end products are cheaper, more affordable products for the customers to purchase. Therefore, they won’t have a huge profit margin - if they have any profit margin at all - so your whole strategy has to be focused towards getting those customers who have bought from you before to buy from you again. The marketing costs on your first sale can eat you up if you don’t have something to back it up.

Here’s a quick story. We had a customer who bought from us business-to-business. He ordered a $782.00 paper profits program from us.

The customer had originally contacted us with some expensive advertising that we ran. We had sent out our mailing piece and this person had responded. She ordered the product over the Internet. She faxed us a copy of her order form, and she included her credit card number so we could charge her for the $782.00 product.

When we sent that package out, we sent some ride-along material with it in the form of a special report on a product we had that was closely related to the product she had ordered. It happened to be “For Sale By Owner,” because the initial product dealt with real estate issues.

The very next day she sent in a $152.00 order! That’s right, she accepted the extra offer the day after she had received the product! “That’s great!” I thought.

And so, when we shipped that product, we had ride-along materials that went with it that offered a more expensive, more comprehensive, better package to suit her needs. All of a sudden, she wanted a $1,437.00 package that we had available!

1. Pick a product topic area that you like.

This should have a solid customer base. You should also be able to either create or license a product for your use.

It deliverable over the Internet? Will you be selling it over the Internet? The answer there, of course, is yes!

2. Do a little bit of research.

Business research, that is. I am talking about shirt sleeve research!

Use search engines. Cruise 200 related web sites if you have a couple of free hours one day. Check news groups and e-zines. In three hours you can literally have an encyclopedia of knowledge. Now you know exactly how to market it!

3. Focus on a main product.

This will be your flag ship product.

4. Locate additional related products.

You work out arrangements and gain the rights so you can sell, create, and develop additional products for the customers that are interested in the product you sold them originally. You know they are interested, because they bought the main product!

There are many reasons some marketers fail in the mail-order business. Here are five proven things to ensure your success!:

1. Their optimism may have been greater than their knowledge.

Don’t get in a rush! Take your time and learn all that you can. Do research. Do your homework. Learn your market. That way, you stand the best chance of success.

2. They may have tried to sell inferior products that led to few orders or many returns.

Get the good mailing lists from the most reliable list brokers you can find. There are many people out there with lists that are not good, so you always have to be “on your toes.” Also, do not offer a product that you have no control over. The company producing it might withdraw it from your offers, it may be discontinued, or the company might even go out of business. This can cause massive damage to the company selling the product, especially if the product was a real winner!

4. Others may have mislead their prospects with exaggerated claims they could not back up.

Be as believable as you can. Don’t make outrageous claims that read like they just aren’t true. Use testimonials. Use specific numbers. People believe that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. You have to make what you offer sound good, but not good beyond the point of reality.

5. Others simply ignored complaints or refund requests.

Customer service is a very important key to continual success. You have to treat those who have bought from you correctly. You have to be gracious and quick with a refund. You have to take complaints to heart and do your best to correct the situation that brought them about. You serve your market; you do not control it with an iron fist. They don’t have to buy from you, and if you show them you don’t care what they think or what their concerns are, they won’t buy from you.

To illustrate a point, let us tell you a quick story about a gentleman who was going to speak at a seminar. He was going to sell some products at the back of the seminar. He had the whole backseat of his car filled with boxes and each had the product he was selling. In one of the boxes he had some donuts that he was also going to bring as well.

He took all of the boxes and put them at the back of the room. He gave his fantastic awesome speech. People rushed to the back of the room and they had their credit cards and checks waving around. They purchased all the boxes. After it was over, he realized that someone had actually purchased the box of donuts instead of one of the products. Well, the sad thing about it is, no one ever called him to complain. He was certain that the box of donuts was sitting under somebody’s bed, on somebody’s shelf, or somewhere where the donuts were rotting in that box. They never had the motivation to even crack the box open.

You have a choice right now. You can go back to your same old habit. You can start doing the same things that you’ve been doing previously. You’ve got to realize those days are going to start adding up to weeks. Those weeks are going to start adding up years, and those years are going to add up to your lifetime. Many starting marketers don’t understand how powerful affiliate programs can be, and how easy they are to instigate. There are companies out there with literally thousands of affiliates helping sell their products - and you could have the same thing! Starting your own affiliate program is how you could make hundreds, or even THOUSANDS of people happy to sell your products!

Affiliate programs are referred to by various names. Affiliate programs are sometimes called strategic partners, other times associate programs – it’s all the same thing. Amazon.com was really the first to make this popular, and they have 400,000 affiliates selling their products for them! Many people have modeled that success - why can’t you?

Basically, here is how it works. They give you a piece of code that your host puts on your web site for you, and then you list the books that are related to your subject matter, or you put illustration of your books on your site, and they are related to the products that you are selling.

For instance, if your site is about health and you sell supplements, then you might show on your site a number of books that relate like mega doses of vitamins, or new natural healing methods, or anything that relates to your site. If you’re selling fishing, it’s about fishing spots, fly tying, etc.

You, in effect, open a bookstore on your site. When the visitor on your site clicks on any one of those titles, they are carried instantly to the Amazon site where they can find out more about the book, the price, the size, the delivery schedule, what people have said about it, other comments about the writer – and you do nothing!

When the visitor from your site clicks on a book or title at Amazon.com it is instantly recorded and you are paid a small commission for that sale.

What you are doing is generating customers and traffic for Amazon. It’s a win-win situation because your customers are getting something they want (more information about products that you sell) and for doing nothing, frankly. The commission is pretty much free money, because you don’t have to pack the product, you don’t have to ship the product, you don’t warehouse it, you don’t have any money tied up in inventory.

You can do this for your own products, too! You don’t have to be an Amazon.com to make this work because there is software available from all sorts of sources that lets you operate your own affiliate program.

You get other sites to sign up as your affiliate. It doesn’t cost them anything, but you give them a piece of code (your software will do that for you) and they advertise or recommend your site. They can place a banner on their site or they can place an ordinary link. They can also write an article and recommend your site in that article – that is really the most powerful referral of all.

When the visitor at your affiliate site clicks on that link or banner ad, the same thing happens. They come directly to your site, they look at your material, and if they make a purchase on your site, your software automatically records that so that your affiliate gets paid.

In fact the software we use sends the affiliate a note that says, “Hey, you just made a sale at my site.” It sends our customer a note that says, “Thanks for making a purchase!” And it sends us a note that says, “It’s time to pay the affiliate.” It tells us when and for what and how much money to write the check for and who to send it to. It just doesn’t get much easier than that.

In effect, you create an army of other sites that are selling your products for you. It’s not a complicated arrangement to set up. You can grow it as large as you want it to grow. Essentially it is like running a national advertising campaign, where you have TV spots and magazines all running your ads, but you don’t have to pay a penny unless those ads make you a sale. That’s the beauty of this - you don’t pay a penny unless your affiliates make you a sale. It’s per-inquiry advertising at the extreme. One of the neatest ways to do that I’ve found is published by a company called Isyndicate.com. They are located on the web at www.Isyndicate.com. If you go to that site on the web, you can sign up to get your own free user ID and password. They provide top news, weather, sports, business and finance, opinions, advice columns, earth sciences, health, fun and games, lifestyles and entertainment news that are absolutely free of charge to use on your web site. These are provided by the likes of Reuters, AP, CBS sports-line - all of the biggest companies.

The reason they do this is because they like to provide links at the bottom of these articles so you’ll click over to their news services and find even more information. They give you a little snip of the code you can plant into your website once you’ve signed up, and, literally, the articles are updated, changed, and modified for you.

Then, every time you go in, there’s new news popping up on your site. Now you’ve just created an informational product that you can literally display on the web and attract users who come back and visit more and more often. Now, you have to use this on your web site.

If you want to build a product off-web, there are two other places you can go. One is www.adbility.com. This provides syndicated content that you can also add to a web site. Many of these will let you publish them in any form and distribute them. This site gives you hundreds and hundreds of other sites that you can go to in order to syndicate content that’s free.

That you can receive by e-mail, ebay’s content, or free contents on web sites, and all the links you need to go and sign up for each individual one.

One final good option is world-wide info outlet. This is a collection of hundreds and hundreds of articles right on the web site. You can browse and pick which ones you want. Their policy doesn’t seem to indicate that you have to post it on a web site.

You can use it on an e-mail newsletter, in a newsletter, print magazine, or whatever you choose. The only thing they ask is that there is a tag line at the bottom that promotes the author and, of course, whatever web site or service they offer or sell. You have to include that. That’s how they get this content.

There is incredible stuff there. You can literally spend about five hours browsing through this and put together a book that’s written for you. Stretch: Eliminate the tension in your muscles by giving them a nice long stretch. Gently and slowly stretch the muscles in your legs, arms, neck and back, etc., until you feel a tug. Then hold it for ten to 20 seconds and release. You either can do this just with the muscles that are tense, or throughout your body.

Walk: When tension is high, walk it off. Just get up and take your tension for a stroll. A brisk ten- or 15-minute walk can reduce muscular and nervous tension.

Take a Mental Trip: By visualizing a stress-free scene that appeals to you, you can unwind the tension you feel. Now, the best place to start at is to find a good list of e-zines that are now being published on the Internet. I found one at a tremendously long address - http://www.homeincome.com/search/it/e-zine/ezkeywords-mdx.htm there you’ll find an actual searchable database of thousands of e-zines, and it is updated regularly.

You can search by title, by description, by access, and by the type of readers. You can look for descriptions. You can search for the title, or the key words field. They’ve also got them listed by alphabetical order.

There are art films, baths, brains, contemporary Christian, free masonry, huggy bears, pregnancy, saddle, serialized fiction... everything under the sun!

Start looking for those particular e-zines that will reach the market you are trying to reach with your products and services, then write a very short press release.

New York is known for a lot of things. One of them is diamonds and jewelry. California, on the other hand, is the home of a lot of computer companies.

These examples are just the tip of the iceberg. You could specialize in products from other countries. You could import if you’re Irish, French, Italian, or whatever, and sell it on these Sites. The main thing is to look for what’s right under your nose.

Here Are Eight Things You Can Do To Pull In More Orders!

Your order form is going to be what people see at the very end before they make the final decision on whether or not to buy your product or service. Following are some things you can do to make your order form more appealing, which will lead to more sales!

  • Give your prospect plenty of room. Don’t make your order form like a coupon. Generally, a mail-order order form will be a full page, so give them plenty of room to write.

  • Use good paper stock. Make sure you use paper that will not allow the ink to bleed. Make sure the customer’s information is always going to be readable.

  • Use a separate form. Studies have shown that a separate order from will out-pull an attached order form. So, try to have a separate order form for them to fill out.

  • Make the layout attractive. Make people want to look at your order form, but don’t overdo it. Don’t put a lot of artwork on the order form. That will take away from the purpose of the order from, which is to get them to fill it out and mail it to you with their payment!

  • Include a brief recap. Because you have plenty of room, you should always restate your offer to them and encourage them to fill the order form out right then and there.

  • State your offer boldly. The U.S. Postal Authorities will be all over your case if you appear to be hiding something in the fine print. Make sure your offer and any restrictions or rules are stated clearly.

  • Use Light Colors. Your print may not show up clearly if you do not put it on lighter colors. Sometimes dark colors hide print. So, be sure to use either pastels or just plain white paper.

  • Make it easy. This covers everything. You must make it easy for the customer to order. If you can take phone orders, put your phone number on the order form. If you have a fax for orders, put that number on the order form. If you want them to mail the order, it would be best if you included a postage paid envelope. In general, the easier it is for them to order, the more likely they will be to order from you.

All these things together will help make your order form pull more sales for you! Make sure your order form is easy to read and easy to use. It can make or break your sales success!
