There is another way you can do this without even having to actually “work a deal” with the store. This can work great with antique stores. You can actually go spot out products that you know are selling. You just go in and maybe take some notes or keep mental notes of the products that are selling well on the auction sites. Then you go locally to your own area and you can find either an antique store or a small retail store that sells those kinds of products.

Make a note as to what the products are selling for. Look for low price, where someone is selling it for less than it could be sold for on the Internet. Maybe even just ask them what their rock bottom price is. A lot of antique dealers will be willing to work a deal with you if you’ll chew them down a little bit on the price. They’ll sell it to you for a discount.

Then you go back to the auction site again and list it for sale. Once it sells, you can go back to that store and tell them that you will buy it. And, of course, you buy it from them for less than you sold it for. Then you go ahead and ship it out to the person who was the high bidder.

The great thing about the Internet auction sites is that you can let your customerspay for shipping. This way you don’t have to worry about shipping eating away at your profits. You tell them right up front that shipping will vary depending on where they are, and that once they are the highest bidder, you will let them know how much shipping is. The Internet wine auction house does it all. Our friend just ships the wine to the buyer UPS. When it’s all done, they send him a check.

Another thing you can sell online through joint ventures is subscriptions to a printed newsletter. Not an electronic newsletter, but a printed one like we publish. A friend of ours sells it on his web site. We do nothing. He has the site, he programs it, he pays for the hosting, he’s got the domain name, he set up the software, and he did all the HTML. People go there, they subscribe to our newsletter, and they send him the order. He keeps a percentage and forwards the rest to us. And those orders show up here just about every day!

So if you have any kind of a product, and you have any kind of electronic delivery system or even if you just mail it out like we do with our newsletter, you can piggyback with other people.

Also, if you go on the Internet and you do a search, no matter what you’re selling - ifyou sell a cookbook or if you sell a collectible plate it doesn’t matter - you search and let’s say you have a collectible plate of Elvis Presley. You search for Elvis or collectibles. You find all of these sites that sell this kind of material. Then you just start contacting them, one by one, saying, “How would you like to sell my product on your site? It is a beautiful site. It looks like you put a lot of time, money, and effort into it. Here’s another product - there are no strings attached - we’ve got a picture we took with a Sony Mavica Camera ...”

You can send the picture over the Internet, or you can just mail them the disk. They pop it in their computer and print the photo on their site. It works with E-Bay also. And then they sell your product and you fulfill.

Usually you give them more of the money. You don’t keep half and give them half, because they’re doing most of the work. So, generally, it is a 60/40 or 70/30 agreement. It just depends. If your fulfillment cost is very high you’ll need 40. If your fulfillment cost is really low, then you only need 30. This 30% just shows up like a Christmas present and you put it in your bank account.

Soon it changed to eighty - twenty. Still 80% checks and only 20% credit cards. Then it kind of leveled off at a seventy - thirty rate 12 years ago or so, it was 70% checks and money orders, 30% credit card orders.

Today, over 70% of all the money he takes in comes in via credit cards. It’s something like 72% as opposed to only 28% for checks and money orders.

Now we did a survey at our office a few months ago to find out what the actual number was. We found that 61% of our customers paid by credit cards and about 39% paid by check and money orders. We were getting 72% of our business from the 61%. So it’s not equal.

Not only are two out of three paying by credit card, but they’re spending more money. We know with higher priced offers - two hundred ninety-five dollars, four hundred and ninety five dollars - sometimes it’ll be over 80% who pay by credit card.

Not only are credit cards the majority of sales, they are disproportionately the most money. So you really have to have it in mail order to do business today.

On the Internet it’s a whole different ball game. While it’s important to take credit card orders by mail order, it is essential to take them for Internet marketing!

Twelve Things You Can Do To Instantly Make Up To $1,000,000A Year Or More With Direct-Mail!

To plan a successful direct-mail program, you should follow proven marketing methods. The following twelve guidelines will help you avoid the most commonly made mistakes:

1) You must know who you are trying to reach with your mailings.

You must understand the market you are trying to reach. You must be able to get the best list available that targets your market. If you do not know who your market is, you won’t be able to make your offer as appealing as it needs to be. Always keep in mind that it doesn’t matter how many names you mail your offer to if they are the wrong names! The quality of your names is more important than the quantity!

2) Choose the right market for your product or service.

You must make sure your product meets the needs of the market. In other words, if you are selling lawnmowers, don’t mail your ad to that section of New York where everyone lives in apartments with no yards!

3) Make certain your ad copy is aimed at the right people.

Make sure that your ad copy matches the type of people you are mailing your offer to. If your mailing list contains people who have purchased mail-order products that cost no more than $50, and you are trying to get them to spend $500, you may not have the right mailing list.

4) Make your mailing package hard to refuse.

Your offer must fit the interests of the reader. Pack it full of value and benefits the customer can’t refuse. Be clear and direct with your offer. Don’t ramble on about things that don’t move the reader closer to the sale. Tell them what you have, how it will benefit them, and how they can get it from you now! Remember, if you confuse ‘em, you will lose ‘em!

5) Make your offer sincere and believable.

Don’t ever sacrifice good hard-hitting advertising copy in order to sound sincere. Just make sure you sound believable. Because of the amount of direct-mail people receive each day, they have become skeptical about everything they receive. 6) Make sure your graphics fit your copy.

The right graphics can really enhance the visual effect of ad copy. But, be careful. Overdoing your graphics will only confuse the reader. If you have too many graphics, the reader will pay more attention to the artwork than to your ad copy itself. This will cost you orders. In short, make sure your graphics blend well with your ad copy and help the reader move closer to making a buying decision.

7) Coordinate your time.

Make sure you are working with the clock and not against it. Keep ahead of schedule. All it takes is a little planning and coordination. If you have to have a project done in 30 days, figure out how much of it you need to get done each week, and then break that down into how much you need to have done every day! This will help you stay focused and on track. It will keep you from having a mailing that was “supposed” to go out last week!

8) Check every detail before you begin.

Before you actually begin mailing, you must make sure that everything is correct and ready to go. Hopefully you have been doing a quality check here and there along the way. But, you should do it again. Check the sales piece. Does everything look right? Do younotice any typing errors? How about the return envelope? Is the return address correct? Did they get your postage-paid permit number on it right? Is your order form right? Is it easy to read & easy to fill out? Every small detail must be checked out before any of your mail is sent out! One small error could dramatically hurt your response.

Every successful marketer knows that the way to make the most money possible is to always include a back-end offer. You can do this when you mail their product to them, or you can do it in a future mailing. But, if putting an extra sales piece in your delivery package doesn’t increase postage, why waste the money on a future mailing?

 The best time to reach a customer with a new offer is shortly after they first order from you. So, why not just send them an offer withtheir package. A lot of businesses do this! Whenever you order from the JC Penney Catalog, don’t they ALWAYS send you another catalog? Of course they do! They understand this principle! Now you can profit from it! If it doesn’t cost you any extra postage to send the offer out with their order; it can only stand to make you more money!

11) Establish a long-term relationship with your customers.

BLIND OFFERS Can Make You Rich!

A “blind offer” is an offer that tells the prospect or customer a little about the product or service you are trying to sell them... but leaves them wanting to know more. These offers do not tell your prospects or customers everything. If they want to know more, they’ll have to spend their money and buy your product or service.

Why are these blind offers are so powerful: CURIOSITY! They make people want to know more. But the only way they can find out more is to send you their money. They must buy to satisfy their curiosity.

This is a pressure/release technique. First, you tease them with your offer. You make them want the benefits you are telling them how to get. Then, you make them want what you are selling. You make them want to know more. YOU ARE PUTTING THEM UNDER PRESSURE. . . Then you take the pressure off of them by letting them send for your product or service.
