Choose The Right Name To Make Membership Even More Attractive!

You need to give them a good name. For example, “Frequent Flyers” was a great idea. Sell Them By NOT Pointing Out That You’re Trying To!

We don’t try and sell them in the e-mail. We remind them of their interest, we remind them where they visited, and we include a link back to the site if there is some other information we didn’t tell them. Each time we write in those follow-ups we put something in like “oh, maybe I didn’t tell you.” “Maybe I need to remind you.” “Maybe you didn’t realize.” “Are you aware that the deal expires tomorrow that I offered you? I don’t want you to miss it. You can click here and go right to the site.”

These kinds of notes are not common. People are not accustomed to getting them. They’re accustomed to getting lengthy sales letters and such. So how do they respond to these short messages? They respond as if they are personal correspondence.

Thirty-seven percent of the messages that we send out get a response. Now, we have to admit, that takes some time. But they write us to tell us thanks for writing and they give us the reason that they’re not going to buy.

That’s why the Internet, for us, is a much, much better sales tool than mail order. We sell the same product through mail order, so it makes a nice comparison. In mail order we don’t hear why they don’t buy - they just don’t buy. If someone is not interested, they’re not interested.

With the e-mail follow-up, they tell us why they’re not interested. Thirty-seven percent of the people will write us and say, “I’m not interested because....Or “I don’t have the time to.... It’s too expensive for me right now.....” or they give any number of reasons. That gives us a chance to instantly respond to them and say, “Thanks for your note. I realize you’re really busy, but just remember in your future planning that it only takes 15 minutes, three days a week, to accomplish...” whatever it is that they want to accomplish.

And it’s simply this - you offer something free to the public that large numbers of people want. It could be the joke of the day, the recipe of the day, business tips and information, how-to information, almost anything that large numbers of people want, and you offer it for free. No matter how good your site is, and how desirable the information that you post, and no matter how large an audience that information appeals to, you can’t build your site and expect the advertisers to just come. It’s no field of dreams. Advertisers go where traffic exists, not where traffic will be. You need to remember that. Advertisers go where traffic already exists.

In planning our web sites, sometimes we forget that. Nothing sells to advertisers but exposures, traffic, clicks, and sales. That’s what they pay for, but they pay for it only when it is there, not when it’s going to be there.

In most of the restaurants that are very successful, the person who puts it together has to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars before they ever take in a dime - before they know whether or not that restaurant will make money.

Most other businesses have to do that, too. They have to put up a large amount of money to put their business together, and they don’t even know if it will make any money!

Direct response marketing is not like this, though. This is how being in business does not have to be a gamble at all! In direct response marketing, you only have to spend small quantities of money on small amounts of advertising to test and find out what will make you the most money. The Hardest Part Is Getting Started - So Get Started Already!

The first thing you need to do is get on-line. If you’re not on-line, if you don’t have a computer, there’s no excuse. You can still go to your public library and log on the Internet. College kids that volunteer there will show you how to do it, and get you on-line.

Next thing you know, you type in Ebay.com, and you’re visiting an auction site. Visit somebody’s auction site! Go to winebid.com and look at the wines, or go to Ebay. There are so many categories there. Hit some of these sites and just browse. Look around.

After you do that, I suggest you buy something, because once you go through the whole motion as a consumer, as a customer of one of these sites, you get a very, very good feeling for how the whole process works. You will also, know what your customer is going through when you start selling. So, buy something. You don’t have to spend a lot of money, but buy something.

The Secret To Making Up To$500,000 A Year With Newspapers

Very few Direct-Response Marketing professionals run ads in local newspapers. But you can. Below are the steps you can take to make huge amounts of money by advertising in newspapers. We’ll also give you a quick mathematical example to show you how simple it could be to bring in $500,000 a year in sales by advertising in newspapers:

1) Use our answering machine methods.

Run small classified ads in newspapers with endings that say something like: “Amazing Recorded Message Reveals Details” or “Call Our 24-Hour Recorded Hotline.” The purpose of the small ad is to simply get people to call in and listen to your recording. The recording sells them further by giving them all the benefits of whatever you’re selling and tells them how they can get it.

2) Sell informational products.

Think of the classified ad section of a newspaper like a marketer... The people who are reading the different categories of this newspaper are doing so for a specific reason. They are interested in finding a job, or going to a garage sale, or buying a car. Now all you have to do is develop a product that shows them how you can help them get what they want. Run an ad that promises them the biggest benefit, and let them dial your number and listen to your recorded message.

4) Test like crazy. Figure out a way to advertise profitably in 500 newspapers.

You may have to test 5,000 newspapers to find the 500 that make profits for you consistently. You’ll make money in some newspapers and lose money in others. The secret is to test your ads in as many newspapers as you can to find out which newspapers consistently make you money.

Are you staring to get excited? Good! This is just an example based on mathematical projections, but it’s important to break down all of your ideas into this type of formula. Now let’s break it down even further.

7) $20.00 per paper means selling 4 $25-books-and keeping a profit of 25%.

This is the total amount of sales you would need per newspaper to reach your goal. Think about the simplicity of this formula. You start small.... testing slowly.... with a goal of just selling four of your $25 books, manuals, or other informational products and keeping 25%. You keep testing all kinds of different ads, sales messages, scripts, etc. until you can do this. THE DAY YOU CAN EARN THIS PROFIT IN 10 NEWSPAPERS IS THE DAY YOU REJOICE! Why? Because if you can earn this profit in 10 newspapers, the chances are good that you can do it in 100... then 200... then 500. And if that happened, you’d be on your way to earning $500,000 a year.

8) The secret is to begin at the end.

You know the “numbers” it will take to earn this amount. You know you need to sell four of your $25 products at a 25% profit margin per newspaper every week. That’s the beginning. Then you simply figure out how to do it by testing slowly.

Our $500,000 a year in sales is a mathematical example only that is based on certain number of sales in a certain number of newspapers. It is not a guarantee that you can do this. Your own efforts will vary from different promotions and different ads. However, this example does teach you something very powerful: it takes the mystery out of making money. See step eight. You simply figure out how much money you would like to make each year and then figure out how many different products or services you will have to make to do it. Here’s an example of how you can make a fad really pay off for you. T.J. and I brought in 2.5 million dollars in sales in about six months time all because we found a current fad and used it to our advantage. It was when the information superhighway was just beginning. It was brand new, everyone was talking about it, it was on the news . . . but very few people knew very much about it.

Antiques, collectibles, etc. - there are places you can find these things in your geographic area, people who have them or make them - and they’re less expensive where you live than in any other part of the world. This is how to find dirt-cheap items in your area that people from other parts of the country will pay much for! This is buy-low/Sell-high at its finest - and it can make you RICH!

To best accomplish this, the other real trick of the trade that you need to really concentrate on is studying the auction sites. Particularly, focus on the categories, the ones that have the most action. See what items that are similar to what you can find are going for. Learn which categories to park those items in that will get you the most money, because that’s the key to making the most money!

You could actually mine an auction site, like Ebay, by finding items that are in one category and priced wrong and go cheap. You could actually buy them, move them to the right category, and make a profit!

Here’s One Type Of Advertising That Will Always Lose You Money!

Many marketers try to create “cutesy” type institutional ads that tell readers how great and wonderful they are, but do nothing to sell products.

If you want people to know your name, maybe that is the way to go. But, if you want to sell products via the mail, then institutional advertising is a total waste of time and money.
